Once your deer is down, the work begins. Hopefully you have a sharp knife to eviscerate the animal, which eliminates about 25% of the body weight. Still, dragging a deer back to your vehicle can be a real challenge, especially if it’s a doe with no antlers to attach a drag strap or rope.
This method may not work with a monster buck, but you can make a backpack out of an average-sizes deer and get the meat back to camp without dragging, which can get leaves and debris in the carcass. This is a down-under Kiwi deer, but the video is very clear about the process.
