Shooting a crossbow can seem as easy as shooting a rifle or shotgun, yet the dangers are very different. Firearms are more powerful and have much longer range, yet the string of a crossbow will cause serious damage unless it’s held and released properly. If a shooter has his/her thumb or fingers on the rail of a crossbow upon release, the force of the string can literally amputate the digit. Most modern bows have built-in shields or hand-holds that prevent hand contact with a releasing string, yet the danger and the problem still exists with some shooters.
Here’s a video explaining why some crossbow shooters are suing the manufacturer.
