Coyotes are a significant predator on deer, yet few videos show just how they do it. This clip presents several minutes of one-on-one confrontation between a coyote and an antlerless deer.
Aside from being entertaining, the footage shows several elements of the predator/prey relationship. Watch as the coyote continually attempts to bite the deer on its hamstring, rendering it helpless. Additionally, this deer may be an antler-less buck as you will see the deer butt at the coyote with its head. Luckily for the deer, this was a lone coyote and not a pair or pack. Otherwise, the outcome would have been very different.
It was hard to watch what happened on the ice yesterday. A coyote chased a deer out onto the ice and it didn't look good for the deer. But she was a fighter and was able to escape when Wade pulled into the driveway and scared the coyote back into the woods. We found ourselves routing for the deer but in nature there's no good guys or bad guys. Just animals living life and doing what they were created to do.
