Deer and automobiles are a toxic mix, one in which neither animal nor driver emerges a winner.
With the rut in progress, it’s rare to drive a stretch of Interstate or highway without seeing signs of a recent crash or an animal laying beside the road. In the small town of Hagerstown, Maryland, a couple struck a deer on the highway, stopped, and called a tow truck. The truck driver hung the car, took off, and proceeded to hit another deer on the way to the garage. Of all the deer-and-car stories you’ve heard, few will top this one as reported in The Guardian.
A deer apparently hit by a car brought itself to a New York hospital and walked into the emergency room. Hospital officials say the deer walked through the automatic doors at the entrance to Strong Memorial hospital’s emergency room late on Monday afternoon in Rochester. Officials say the deer made it about 20 feet down a corridor before staff members corralled it.
The deer was struck by a vehicle before it entered the hospital, said Lori Barrette, a hospital spokesperson. It arrived with at least one broken leg. “This was a first-time incident,” Barrette wrote in an email to The Guardian… [continued]
