If you asked hunters gathered around a campfire for the best state to bag a truly monster bull elk of 400″ or larger, you’d probably get answers of Western states like Arizona, New Mexico, or Montana. Ironically, two hunters in Pennsylvania have taken bulls of 400″ or better (one 430″ shown above) in Pennsylvania using a special extended season license through a raffle drawing. That opportunity is knocking again for some lucky sportsman, thanks to the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Keystone Elk Country Alliance (KECA). Here’s a summary of the details.
Last year’s winner of the KECA 2015 Elk Tag Raffle was Mark Martino from Walston, PA. Mark harvested a huge bull scoring approximately 430″. The previous year’s winner was Paul Brown from Blandon, PA and he harvested a 400 3/8″ bull.
Both hunters were guided by Elk County Outfitters. Jack Manack, owner of Elk County Outfitters, has been a long-time KECA supporter and he continues to donate a 6-day fully guided hunts including meals and lodging to the winner of KECA’s Elk Tag Raffle. “This is my way of giving back to Pennsylvania’s Elk Country and to KECA,” stated Manack. Jack and his guides are very experienced and provide first class accommodations. KECA is thankful to Jack for his donations which certainly provides added value to this already fantastic hunting opportunity.
The 2016 KECA Elk Tag Raffle package includes; the elk license, six-day fully guided Paul Brown 2014 hunt including meals and lodging,a shoulder mount of your bull and the opportunity to have the hunt filmed for national TV by the film crew at TomBob Outdoors.
An extended hunting season makes this tag especially appealing. The lucky winner can hunt elk in any zone from September 1-through the end of October and can hire a guide or hunt independently… [continued]
