I’m not a golfer, yet my friends tell me how much fun it is to travel to different courses and enjoy the nuances of each particular one. They still play the same 18 holes and use the same equipment, but the new environment makes the game much more exciting.

Turkey hunting is like that too, but better. Since gobblers come in multiple species, you can play the same game but (with luck) get a different result. You won’t need a new bag of tricks, and you’ll probably learn at least one new tactic every time you tee off. Steve Hickoff lays out his extensive plan for inexpensive out-of-state turkey hunts in this post from the Realtree website. This is fun, inexpensive and something you have to try.

Turkey hunting out of state is on your mind, but the cost is keeping you grounded.  You’ve hunted in your home turkey state, but you still have gas in the tank. Yep, this is a flat-out addiction. How can you do more and afford it, too? How much cash will you need to do it? Got a thousand bucks to burn? Good. You might not even need four figures. You have the gear already, so only your travel and hunt expenses need to be covered.

Let’s try to pull this plan together.
