Deer can suddenly appear, as if from nowhere.
I had a stand in a fairly open piece of woods and suddenly a buck was practically under my tree. How it got there without making a sound or catching my vision, I haven’t a clue.
Luckily, it paused to eat an acorn and my arrow caught both lungs. In thick areas, during early season when foliage is full and during the rut when bucks are constantly on the prowl, “ghost” bucks can show up right there, with only seconds to draw, aim, and shoot.
Luckily you can prepare for this, as Dan Schmidt shows in this video from Deer & Deer Hunting.
