I call it “The Impossible Miss,” and here’s why.
I was invited to hunt with Bill Jordan and the Realtree gang on their famous Milk River property in Northeastern Montana. Michael Waddell was the camera operator (before he became a hunting star) and we were in a well-disguised cottonwood tree stand. I told Michael that if a deer came along the trail below us, I’d grunt and stop it right there (as I pointed to a spot) and shoot.
An hour later, a nice 8-point buck came along the trail. I stopped it with a grunt, exactly as promised, and shot right over its shoulder. Here was the chance for 15 minutes of fame and I blew it.
