Thus far, the 2016-17 winter has been uncharacteristically mild. New England and the far northern tier have received snow but the Mid-Atlantic and South have little to none. By contrast the Western states have been inundated, especially Wyoming which has received twice it’s usual accumulation. Deep snow can be a tremendous stress-or on wildlife and the public has requested wildlife officials to conduct supplemental feeding to help deer survive. Surprisingly, Game & Fish said, “No,” a response that may sound cruel and unhelpful to deer facing starvation.
