While online recently, I came across this atrocity and am absolutely dumbfounded how such a travesty could occur without national attention. Imagine if some lunatic shooter sneaked into an elk wintering ground and killed more than a dozen. In this case, the culprit was one every western hunter knows and loathes — the wolf. They killed all the elk in the above picture, mostly calves, and ate the fetuses out of two adult cows, probably while they were still alive. Here’s the report from Wyoming Hunter Defense Fund.
Sadly, we have unfortunate news to report out of the Bondurant elk feed ground south of Jackson, Wyoming. In a single night this week, wolves slaughtered 18 elk on the feed ground. Of the 18 elk killed, 16 of them were calves. The calves were not eaten, just killed and left for dead. Two pregnant cow elk were also killed. The wolves tore out the fetuses, presumably while the cows were still alive. The cows were also left uneaten, simply left to die… [continued]
