Ticks are a health problem that every outdoor person should fear. Whether you are hiking, fishing, turkey hunting, or just working in your yard, you are at danger of being bitten and possibly infected by tick-born disease. Lyme’s disease is one of the worst and can make your life a misery with aches, pains, disability, and worse. If you are outside long enough, you’ll eventually get ticks and this Facebook video will show you how to remove them as well as identify the specific specie that’s bitten you.
Take Precautions
Before getting to the removal process, a word about precaution. Ticks like mosquitoes, gnats and other bugs can be repelled by DEET on skin, but more effectively with permethrin on clothing. Permethrin was judged the most effective insect repellent by the Federal Government during military tests and remains their number one deterrent for clothing. It’s not intended to be used on skin, yet when sprayed on boots, pants, and other outerwear will last for several wearings. Tuck a small aerosol can into your pack or tackle box and spray down before you and yours head into the wilds.
