Some of the greatest hunting opportunities occur on National Wildlife Refuges, yet these fantastic destinations are often obscured in red tape or just kept secret. Kudos to Phil LePelch of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for highlighting some truly fantastic hunting destinations that are totally on public land. From Alaska to Florida, from far into the wilderness to undiscovered places under everybody’s nose, are more than 300 National Wildlife Refuges that offer some of the best hunting in the country. Hunters have long been National Wildlife Refuge System partners and have played a major role in the conservation of the nation’s wildlife resources since the late 19th century. Today’s hunters can be assured of quality hunts on National Wildlife Refuges across the country, carefully managed in accordance with the Refuge System’s Guiding Principles.
