Technology keeps changing the face of hunting gear, and none may seem more dramatic than Altra‘s new Lone Peak 3.0 NewShell Mid. It provides all the lightweight, bouncy lift of a running shoe in a boot designed to claw its way up and down mountains.
The Altra brand is probably new to most hunters, yet if you Google Altra, running shoe pops right up.
Three things about this shoe make it hunt worthy. First, instead of a narrow foot silhouette like most athletic footwear, Altra offers a toe box that allows your feet to spread out, feel comfortable, and allow perspiration to exit. Next, the shoe has a unique Zero Drop, which places your heel and forefoot the same distance from the ground, giving you a natural, barefoot feel. Finally, these shoes have a terrific gripping sole and are insulated and waterproof.
These definitely aren’t your grandfather’s hunting boots, yet don’t be surprised if you see them on the toughest of hunts.
