Almost every deer hunter loves the whitetail challenge, yet many don’t like hunting them as a competition, as opposed to, say, professional bass tournaments. Interestingly, American Whitetail Authority’s Whitetail Pro Series provides a challenging hunting competition where everyone eats chicken at the winner’s banquet; it’s a digital catch-and-release contest. The event will air July 4 on the Pursuit Channel and can be just the prompt you need to begin your fall deer season preparation. Here are the details.
The 2014 Whitetail Pro Series Season Two puts hunters to the test with some of the most challenging circumstances you’ll ever see in hunting. Contestants are given only one day to scout thousands of acres they’ve never visited; then they’re given two days to hunt using blank rounds and digital scopes to record their shots, which are judged by AWA officials. To further complicate matters, hunts were held post-rut and, as it turned out, during a run of very bad weather. All of the action can be seen on Sunday’s at 3:30 p.m. with re-airs taking place on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. EST throughout both the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2014.
“Everyone knows how harsh this past winter was, and it followed us as we crossed the country with the Whitetail Pro Series,”said AWA President David Fort. “We had competitors fighting the weather all season, culminating at the AWA Championship in Kansas where our AWA pros and camera operators battled wind chills of 20 degrees below zero! [It was] a very tough season that resulted in some fantastic competition.” “We are very excited to be partnering with Pursuit Channel to air this second season of the Whitetail Pro Series,”said Fort. “Pursuit’s stated goal is to create a place everyone in the outdoor industry can call home. The American Whitetail Authority is proud to be a part of that mission and to call Pursuit home. They are a network on the rise and our hope is to grow with them.”
