Typically when talking about surf fishing in Southern California, you’re talking about light tackle… trout-type rods, 4-lb. test, small hooks. People that like to surf fish are more interested in the whole experience of walking the beach, the solitude, and the relaxation found along the way.
On the other end of the spectrum, when heavy tackle like Penn International reels, 130-lb. test and size-12 hooks are involved, it brings to mind visions of adrenaline-soaked battles with pelagic species like marlin and tuna. What happens when those two worlds collide?
