There are a lot of grand slams that hunters try to complete.
They might range from the grand slam of deer, turkeys, sheep, or even taking all recognized big game animals in North America.
Rarely, if ever, does one hear about completing the slam of all eight U.S. bushytail species of squirrels.
How many of you even knew there were that many species of squirrels available to hunt? Probably not many.
Field & Stream reports on a hunter that completed the slam by harvesting all 8 species of squirrels.
Johnathan O’Dell is the small game biologist for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. He’s also a seriously dedicated squirrel hunter. O’Dell says he prefers hunting the bushy-tailed tree-dwellers over any other game because of the skill level required.
“I seized the opportunity and made plans to try and take the U.S. Slam of tree squirrels,” he says. “It wasn’t until after I finished the hunts that I learned I may very well be the first hunter to ever accomplish this feat.” … [continued]
