Normally, this post is about hunting tips and tactics, yet sometimes the back story of an event helps make clearer decisions about a hunting, fishing, or other outdoor adventure. I’ve hunted the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota numerous times and earned the name Wa hin Kape, four arrows, for the buffalo I took there a while back. My biggest mule deer came from the Pine Ridge under the guidance of Travis Brave Bird. Despite hunting promise, the Pine Ridge is one of the poorest political regions in the nation, rivaling some of the poorest in the world. I consider it an honor and a privilege to hunt with a Native American guide, yet you will be surprised at the living conditions on the Pine Ridge and other Sioux lands. This video gives an historical perspective from the Indian point of view.
