Contrary to popular beliefs, bucks do not fight over territory. When bucks fight, it’s over receptive does.

Not all bucks are created equal. Some are bullies, and look for fights. Others do what they can to avoid fights.

Bucks most commonly fight at age three. This is when they are about to reach full maturity, and have the run of the herd.

Most fights that hunters witness are just sparring matches. The two bucks are trying to feel each other out.

Bucks prefer to fight with other bucks that are similar in body size, not antler size.

The smaller buck will eventually run off in most cases. Rarely does a buck die during a fight. If a buck does die, it is often after the fight from infected wounds.
