If you live in or visit bear country, you’ll soon learn how resourceful bears can be.

A friend killed an elk in steep Idaho country and was unable to pack all the meat out the first day. To prevent bears from bothering his venison, he threw a rope over a heavy bow and hoisted the final two quarters 15 feet off the ground. When he returned the next morning, one quarter was gone and a big black bear was standing over the other. The bruin figured the rope trick in no time, chewed through the nylon, and feasted on elk. The hunter gave up and went back to camp.

In this video, a researcher electrifies a deer kill to see how a grizzly bear will react. Electric fences are popular defence mechanisms when camping in bear country, and at first the shock chases it away. If you know bears, you’ll enjoy what happens next.
