Mention whitetail predators and coyotes, foxes, black bears, and other mammals come to mind. But it’s the insidious tick that, attracted to carbon dioxide, can quickly overwhelm a small fawn as it sits motionless on the forest floor.

Ticks also spread Lyme’s disease, a crippling malady that is found in all lower 48 states and in near epidemic status in the Northeast and upper Midwest.
